Roles

Episode Summary

In this episode, Patrick takes us through five ways to define the roles that we hold in our lives. When we look at our roles, we need to understand that these are the lens through which our goals are set (along with our values). When we clearly define our roles—and maybe claim some lost ones along the way—we have a distinct view of who we are and how these roles influence all other areas of our lives.

What are your roles? Here are mine:

Goals are lined up with values and also with roles.

5 Ways to Define Your Roles

  1. Clarify and prioritize your roles.
  2. Live out your roles appropriately (roles should fit into your positions that you hold).
  3. Claim lost roles.
  4. Let go of some labels that you've allowed to settle in as roles.
  5. Be prepared to make changes to operate in your roles (pruning decisions; rarely about adding but typically about subtracting).
